Production on the set of Deadpool 2 was halted when one of the stunt-women from the upcoming 20th Century flick died while performing a sequence.
The tragic incident took place in Vancouver, when motorcyclist Joi Harris lost control of her bike and smashed right through a glass window on West Waterfront Road near Jack Poole Plaza.
Harris was performing as a double for the role of Domino, which is being played out being actress Zazie Beetz, when her bike began to accelerate instead of slowing down as she approached the corner.
The director of the Ryan Reynolds starrer, David Leitch passed his condolences in a statement, “I’m deeply saddened by the loss of one of our stunt performers today,” Leitch said. “No words can express how I and the rest of the Deadpool 2 crew feel about this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time.”
Few close sources from the set have claimed that the crew members are faced with the challenge of working 16 hours a day for several days in a row, resulting into physical and mental exhaustion, while another source from the studio production has denied the claim, stating that the normal working hours do not extend 12-13 hours a day.
Nevertheless, it does raise security concerns surrounding stuntmen as this happens to be the second instance of fatality within a month, as stuntman John Bernecker also succumbed to some serious head injuries during the shooting of The Walking Dead.
Joi Harris was the first African American women to get a license to compete in American Motorcyclist Association races, while also actively advocating the sport among women.
