The latest remake of Stephen King’s classic horror tale, ‘It’ is shattering box office records unlike any other horror flick of the recent past.
The modernized adaptation of King’s 1986 supernatural horror novel of the same name, has raked in a whopping $117.2 million during its opening weekend alone.
This puts the much-talked about remake, only behind ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.’ – as the third biggest opener of 2017.
An 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with great reviews from critics and positive word-of-mouth – has helped the Andy Muschietti directorial venture, become massively popular among horror-movie fanatics.
The staggering opening gives ‘It’ the biggest September debut ever, surpassing the previous record held by ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’ with a $48.5 million weekend gross in 2015. ‘It’ has also created the record for the biggest debut for a horror flick, crossing the 2011 record of ‘Paranormal Activity 3.’
The movie is also expected to pull great numbers overseas, with an estimated gross of $62 million – which could bring it’s worldwide debut tally to a total of, $179 million.
