This past week Pop legend, Janet Jackson caused a lot of worry among her fans as she broke down singing her 1997-released track on domestic violence, ‘What About’ – while performing during her ongoing ‘State of The World’ tour.
Fans were quick to speculate a case of personal torment, behind her rather public outburst of emotions – fearing the singer may have experienced domestic abuse during her five-year marriage with Wissam Al Mana.
Now Janet’s brother, Randy Jackson has come forward to state that the singer did actually face verbal and emotional abuse during her marriage to Mana, and was made to feel like a prisoner in her own home.
“It was quite an abusive situation,” Randy says. “It came on later in the relationship, verbal abuse and being a prisoner in her own home. No pregnant woman needs to go through being called a bitch everyday. There were things like that. That’s what she went through.”
Randy also revealed how he intervened to take matters in his own hand, after he saw situations getting worse.
“I told her, ‘You’ve got to move in with me or I’m going to go over there and there’s going to be hell.’ She was really pissed off. I told her, ‘I don’t care anymore. I’m tired of it. It’s too much,’ ” he says
Speaking on her emotional breakdown on-stage, Randy said it was an effect of everything that has been going on behind the curtains, as her bitter divorce proceedings with Mana take place.
“What you saw in Houston, it was her situation coming out, what she’s been going through. The abuse is still going on,” Randy said.
“She has custody and he of course allowed her to bring the baby on tour, but it’s constant harassment. This tour almost didn’t happen, but by the grace of God we’re here and we’re very prayerful.”
