Jay has revealed that he along with wife Beyonce reached out to help the late Amy Winehouse way before her tragic demise in 2011.
Speaking on the subject on Tidal Rap Radar podcast, the rap-mogul said they first met Amy at a pub in New York where they asked the troubled British songstress to come stay with them.
Jay and Bey were apparently alerted and sympathized with the singer after hearing the lyrics of her Grammy-winning 2006-released track, ‘Rehab’ – which threw light on the singer’s fight with substance addiction and loneliness.
“I looked at her, and I was like, ‘Stay with us,’” he recalled on his podcast
“She was telling us, she was writing the songs to our face… ‘They’re trying to make me go to rehab, I’m not going!’ Like, what?” he further added. “You have to go!”
The same night Amy also delivered a performance at Joe’s Pub, as the rapper recalled her stuttering after finishing off her performance.
“I was like, ‘You don’t even stutter. Why are you doing that?’” he added.
Jay Z had also featured on a remix version of ‘Rehab’ which was released a year after the original.
Amy Winehouse tragically died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July, 2011.
She was 27.
