Hard Rock band AC/DC’s co-founder, backing vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Malcolm Young has died.
Although the exact cause of death hasn’t been revealed yet, sources tell us, that the singer’s long-term struggle with dementia contributed to it. The celebrated Rock icon is said to have passed peacefully, surrounded by his near and dear ones.
He was 64.
The Australian musician and songwriter, created some of the best selling Rock records in history during his 41 year association with the band.
Young founded AC/DC in November 1973, when he was only 20 years old. The group produced several multi-platinum selling albums like ‘Highway to Hell’ and ‘Back in Black.’ Some of their best known songs include, classics like – ‘T.N.T’, ‘Problem Child’, ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ and ‘Ride On’ – to name a few.
AC/DC sold over 200 million records worldwide in their career – making them one of the best selling artists of all time. The group has often been cited as one of the pioneer bands of Hard Rock and Rock n Roll, featuring in a number of countdowns of the ‘greatest Rock artists in history.’
In the year 2003, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Malcolm took retirement from the band in 2014 citing a deteriorating health condition. He was replaced by his nephew, Stevie Young.
The celebrated musician is survived by his wife, 2 kids and 3 grandchildren.
