The Queen of Tejano music – Selena Quintanilla was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, this past Friday and the ceremony of induction was witnessed by a record-number of fans of the late diva.
A massive crowd consisting of nearly 4,500 people gathered to celebrate the moment as the iconic singer-songwriter who is credited for single handedly popularizing Latin music in the mainstream, received her long-overdue star on the walk.
According to reports, the turnout of people who came-in to pay homage was actually record-breaking for any Walk of Fame ceremony in history. It is said to have broken a 1998 record from the induction ceremony of Mexican singer Vicente Fernandez.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti acknowledged the grandeur of the moment as he said, ‘This is history in the making.”
He further continued: “Selena was an angel. And we thank the family for all they gave and have given this country, and it’s a message we need now more than ever. Because we aren’t strangers to this land, this is our home.”
Eva Longoria who was also invited to celebrate the Grammy winning singer spoke of their common humble beginnings from Texas, and how Selena opened the doors for several other Latin artists like her.
“She was a small town girl with a big heart and a smile that radiated and captivated people everywhere,” Longoria said. “That small town was my hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. And she was the face I finally saw that looked like mine.”
Selena’s life may have ended way too soon with tragedy – but her enduring legacy continues to inspire people.
