‘The Shape Of Water’ wins ‘Best Picture’, Frances McDormand ‘Best Actress’. See full list of winners from 2018 Oscars

The 90th Academy awards tried real hard to be all-inclusive and diverse with their set of nominees for this year. With Greta Gerwig breaking the largely ‘male-only’ category for ‘Best Director’, fetching a nod for directing ‘Lady Bird’ – something which this year’s Golden Globe received flak for, the academy attempted to appreciate equal opportunities for women.

Similarly, with quite a decent number of multi-racial (particularly African American) artists fetching nods in various categories, including the likes of Daniel Kaluuya and Octavia Spencer getting nominated for ‘Get Out’ and ‘The Shape Of Water’ respectively – the Academy tried to ward off previous year’s #OscarsSoWhite criticisms.

Although most of these “diverse nominees” may have lost out – as the final winners were announced on Sunday night’s ceremony, we are not quite complaining as we also insist upon awarding people based on their merit and not just for the sake of diversity.

While several people were counting on ‘Get Out’ to win in the ‘Best Picture’ category, Guillermo del Toro’s emotionally captivating fantasy-drama, ‘The Shape Of Water’ was awarded the prestigious honor.

Similarly, Daniel Kaluyya and Daniel-Day Lewis lost out to Gary Oldman in the ‘Best Actor’ category, while Frances McDormand (as expected) triumphed in the ‘Best Actress’ category.

Were there any other surprises among this year’s winners?
