No other Ariana Grande song has managed to generate the kind of hype her latest offering, ‘Thank You, Next’ did.
Released shortly after her separation from estranged fiance, Pete Davidson – the song name-dropped a number of her ex’s from the past, including her late love – Mac Miller, who passed away only a few weeks ago.
The backstory behind the track and the upfront lyrics have managed to grant the 25 year old singer her very first #1 single in the United States, as the single debuts atop Billboard Hot 100 this week. No doubt, it’s an instant bop and an incredibly catchy tune, layered with the singer’s smooth vocals.
An emotional performance at Ellen, serving as the only ‘immediate promo’ ahead of the week’s conclusion definitely helped push it further up, garnering enough press for her ‘minor slip on stage’ and ‘tearful climax’.
The track has attained 55.1 million streams and 81,000 digital downloads in it’s first week alone.
Taking to her Twitter handle, Grande expressed her gratitude welcoming the ‘exciting new chapter of life’:
what an interesting, challenging, painful and yet beautiful and exciting chapter of life ….. when it rains it pours but i’m embracing all of it. i’m excited for whatever else the universe has in store for me. she’s growing n she’s grateful. 🖤
