Taylor Swift To Receive ‘Artist Of The Decade’ Honor at American Music Awards

Taylor Swift has been named ‘Artist of the Decade’ by the American Music awards.

The ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker, who has eclipsed perhaps every other female recording artist in the past couple of years – when it comes down to measuring her record-shattering sales, with only Adele coming-in close to the top spot, has been given the top honor.

Swift will also likely take the stage to perform at the upcoming AMA’s when she is expected to be honored with the title.

The reputed award has previously been given to country music star Garth Brooks for the 1990’s – while a separate listener poll was also conducted to vote for ‘favorite’ artists in retrospect, yielding names like Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, through the 50’s and 80’s.

So what is it about Swift that makes her worthy of such a title, when you have artists like Beyonce and Lady Gaga – who have apparently had a greater cultural impact?

“Taylor’s impact on music this decade is undeniable and her performances on American Music Awards have been truly spectacular,” says Mark Bracco, who’s the executive vice president of programming and development at Dick Clark productions.

Swift had previously surpassed Whitney Houston, in her total winning tally of AMA’s last year. The latter held the record for ‘Most AMAs won by a female’ for over 20 years.

She now eyes Michael Jackson, for the most wins overall.

Does this make the AMAs any less credible to you?
