Watch: Rihanna Delivers Powerful Speech on Equality and Justice at 51st NAACP Image Awards

Rihanna stunned us all with an empowering speech while accepting an honorary award at the 51st NAACP Image awards ceremony.

The star-singer and performer was honored for her achievements with the association’s President’s Award and she made the most of it by speaking on a number of subjects close to her heart.

The ‘Work’ hitmaker shone bright like a diamond as she struck a resounding chord with those who viewed the live telecast, and those sitting in the auditorium. And the internet, it seems, can’t get enough of praising her wise choice of impactful words.

Here’s an excerpt of what the 32 year old artist said:

“Tonight is not really about me, because the purpose is bigger than me, right? It’s not bigger than us together, but it’s bigger than me, because my part is a very small part of the work that is being done in this world and the work that is yet to be done.”

She further added:

“If there’s anything that I’ve learned, it’s that we can only fix this world together. We can’t do it divided. We can’t let the de-sensitivity seep in. The, ‘If it’s your problem, then it’s not mine. Its a woman’s problem, it’s a black people problem, it’s a poor people problem.’

How many of us in this room have colleagues and partners and friends from other races, sexes, religions?” she asked. “Well then, you know, they want to break bread with you, right? They like you? Well then, this is their problem too. So when we’re marching and protesting and posting about the Michael Brown Jr.s and the Atatiana Jeffersons of the world, tell your friends to pull up.”

Preach girl!!

Certainly the most empowering speech we’ve heard since Oprah’s Cecile B. Demille acceptance speech in 2018.

Congratulations Riri!
