Donald Trump made it clear that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the duchess of Sussex – will have to hire their own private security and pay for it, after having moved to Los Angeles.
The duo recently shifted base from Canada to LA, after having ditched their royal titles and responsibilities in Windsor, but the president is not in any mood for providing them state-sponsored security.
Here is what he was quoted saying on Sunday:
“I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”
By the end of this month, the couple will lose their rights of being “internationally protected” since they departed from their royal titles earlier. Which not only means that the UK taxpayer will not be paying for their security anymore, but also that the US Secret Service agents are not entitled to guard them any longer.
A special request can be made by the couple for US-funded security, but the decision of the same lies with the president – and Trump has already made himself clear in that regard.
Private security it is, for Meghan and Harry.
