Iconic Soul Singer Betty Wright Has Died Aged 66

Only a day after the passing of one of the founding fathers of Rock n Roll, Little Richard, the music industry is hit with yet another tragic loss.

Iconic Soul music legend Betty Wright has died, as announced and confirmed by her close family members.

While the cause of death wasn’t revealed, the news was outed by her niece on social media.

Notably, Soul/Funk music legend Chaka Khan had previously made an alarming post on her own social media handle, no more than two days ago, seeking prayers for Wright. Hence it is likely she had been suffering from poor health and was in a critical condition.

“Calling all my #PrayWarriors. My beloved sister, Betty Wright @MsBettyWright, is now in need of all your prayers.” – Khan wrote 2 days ago.

Wright passed a few hours ago at the age of 66.

Some of her most notable recordings include classics like ‘Let Me Be Your Lovermaker,’ ‘Shoorah Shoorah,’ ‘Tonight is the Night,’ and  ‘Where is the Love.’

RIP Betty Wright.
