Mahalia Jackson biopic may soon be coming to the big-screen (that is, whenever the big screens are up and running after the pandemic is over).
Only days after Lifetime announced a made-for-television biopic on the singing and civil rights legend, a big-screen venture on the same has also been given the green-signal.
Set to be produced by Queen Latifah and Holly Carter, along with Jamie Foxx, the movie named ‘Mahalia!’ will be based on the novel ‘Mahalia Jackson’ by Darlene Donloe.
Grammy winning singer and performer Jill Scott has been roped-in to transform into Mahalia for the role.
This obviously being a much bigger venture than the Lifetime project, has also managed to secure the rights to use Jackson’s original music in the film.
Would be great to see the life of this iconic figure unfold on celluloid for the first time for this generation.
