The feud between actress Mo-Nique and filmmaker Lee Daniels does not seem to be ending. In her recent stand-up act during a comedy show at the Apollo Theater on 13 May, the ‘Precious’ star went-in on Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels and talk-show Queen Oprah Winfrey referring to a two-year old controversy.
In a no-hold-barred act involving several expletives, the Oscar winning actress slammed Daniels and the other two for influencing other people in Hollywood to blacklist her, a claim that led to several controversies earlier.
The story originated more than 2 years ago during the promotion and campaign of Lee Daniels’ award winning drama, ‘Precious’ – that starred Mo-Nique and Gabourey Sidibe in the main roles. As per the actress’ claims producer Tyler Perry wanted her to campaign for the movie during the Oscars season, something that she refused to do unless a paycheck was offered to her for all the expenses involved.
“I said to Tyler Perry in that meeting, ‘Listen baby, I don’t care where the money comes from. You can give me the money for me to go overseas to promote this movie,'” she said in an interview with Huffpost. “And he said, ‘Monique, I’m not in the business to write checks and give away money.’ And I said, ‘Tyler, I’m not in the business to work for free.'”
Things didn’t end there as Mo-Nique slammed all the biggies involved with her movie for ‘blackballing’ her after she claimed that she was told by her director Lee Daniels that the perception is she’s “difficult” and “tacky,” as a result of which she lost several roles.
However, Mo’Nique did win a ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Oscar for her breathtaking performance in the movie, but she claimed she was blacklisted in Hollywood shortly after that.
In her “comedy act” on Saturday, Mo’nique reignited the same controversy as she told the audience, “It would kill me not to say the real sh*t. You are not paying me equally….You are not treating me fairly.”
