Legendary Country music singer Glen Campbell is no more. The “Rhinestone Cowboy” singer passed away after his long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
According to sources close to Campbell’s family, the musician breathed his last on Tuesday around 10 AM in a special care facility for Alzheimer patients, located in Nashville.
Born in Billstown, Arkansas in the mid 30’s, Campbell started playing guitar as a youth and moved to Los Angeles in the year 1960 in the pursuit to become a musician. After receiving popularity with a string of mild hits throughout the 1960’s, including his 1967-released Grammy winning songs ‘Gentle On My Mind’ and ‘By the Time I Get to Phoenix’, Campbell achieved his bigger hits by the mid 70’s with songs like ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’ and ‘Southern Nights.’
In a career spanning over 5 decades, the singer-songwriter released more than 70 albums, selling 45 millions records and having a total of 80 different songs charted on various Billboard listings. He won a total of 6 Grammy’s in competitive categories – apart from 3 Grammy Hall Of Fame awards and a life time achievement award received in the year 2012.
Campbell is survived by his wife, Kim Campbell and eight children.
He was 81.
