Selena Quintanilla family relatives also among the victims killed in Hurricane Harvey

As the casualty toll in the aftermath of hurricane Harvey continues to rise, more tragedies are being added along with the list of victims of the natural disaster.

Late singer-songwriter, Selena Quintanilla’s family members are also among the victims of the flooding in Texas, which so far as claimed at least 60 lives.

The news was shared by Selena dad Abraham Quintanilla, who posted the update on Facebook stating that a van carrying their relatives were drowned while trying to escape the rising levels of water as the roads started to get flooded.

Among those killed in the van were Manuel Saldivar – whose mother was Selena’s grandfather’s first cousin, along with his wife, Belia, and their 4 grandchildren. The family became trapped inside the van while trying to flee the scene.

“The family that drowned in Houston Texas were related to me,” Abraham wrote. “Manuel Saldivar and his wife velia and 4 of their grandkids left their flooded house to go somewhere where there was safety, When they cross [sic] a bridge a wave of water swept the van and push [sic] them in to the bayou the driver was saved but manuel and his wife and 4 grandkids drowned.”

The floodwaters in Texas have damaged at least 49,000 homes in the state, while more than 200,000 are still without power, according to Texas Department of Public Safety.

At least, 60 people have reportedly died so far as the death toll continues to rise.
