After Her ‘Reductive’ Comment on Lady Gaga, Madonna Says ‘They Were Never Enemies’

Remember when there was a supposed beef between Madonna and Lady Gaga – soon after the latter broke into the music scene and started selling and setting records.

Gaga’s flamboyant and extravagant Pop imagery and music were instantly compared to the likes of Madonna, whose early success floated significantly on ‘shock value’, similar to that of Gaga’s.

In a past interview, which took place around the time Gaga’s Billboard chart topping single, ‘Born This Way’ had come out – drawing comparisons from Madge’s late 80’s hit, ‘Express Yourself’ – the Pop diva had even labelled the comparisons as ‘reductive’, in a shady response.

But in a recent interview with British Vogue, Madonna insists that the supposed rivalry was only media-made and the two in fact were never ‘enemies’ of that sort.

Here is what she was quoted telling the publication:

“People got very excited about [the thought of Lady Gaga and myself as] enemies, when we never were enemies.”

After their recent exchange of pleasantries post Gaga’s Oscar win this year, the thought doesn’t seem to far-fetched, does it?
