Shopkeeper Catches Hungry Teen Stealing, Offers Him Food Instead Of Calling Cops

In a heartwarming act of a ‘humane deed’, which took place at a 7-eleven store in Toledo, Ohio – a teen caught shoplifting, got a life-changing reaction from the owner, after he offered him food instead of calling the cops on him.

Jay Singh – owner of the place was monitoring the teen’s activity through CCTV – after being alerted by an employee. Soon after Singh noticed the teen pocketing some food items, he confronted him and asked him to take out everything he put inside his clothes.

While directing his staff to call 911, he also just happened to ask the boy the reason for stealing in the first place, to which he replied stating that ‘he was hungry.’

Singh instantly reacted to the situation by asking his staff member to hang up the 911 call, and offering the boy to eat something instead.

“Well that’s not food. You’re stealing gum, candies and junk food,” Singh said. “That’s just something for munching. If you’re hungry, ask me. I’ll give you food.”

“When he said, I’m hungry and that’s why I’m stealing, I said okay, he has some genuine problem. He’s not a thief who’s going and stealing stuff and selling it,” he was quoted telling CNN.

The incident along with the CCTV footage, instantly went viral – turning into a big lesson and wake up call to everyone, who are quick to judge a book by its cover.

Let us hope there are continuous examples of humbling humanity in troubled times like these.

Way to go Mr. Singh!
