Kelly Rowland Remembers The Time She Got To Meet Her Idol, Whitney Houston

Kelly Rowland has long been asserting that she’s among the countless singers who have been inspired by the legendary, late and great Whitney Houston.

The former Destiny’s Child member, recently sat down for a ‘Coaches Round Table’ – a special segment from The Voice Australia, where she’s co-mentoring and judging, and reflected back on her first meeting with Houston.

As she pulled a chit out of a quiz bowl and the question that popped was about her meeting her idol and whether they stood up to her expectations in reality, Kelly was full of emotions as she spoke about the diva.

Here’s what she said:

“Absolutely. She was amazing. It was Whitney. I remember actually coming out of this hotel. And I remember her ex-husband Bobby Brown came upto myself and the girls and said: “Oh my god! My wife loves y’all.”

She continued:

“So we go over and she was in an interview with this woman and it was for the OUT magazing and I’ll never forget it. And it was the first time we were mentioned with another artist in an article. And she stopped the interview, sang to us, talked to us, was like ‘Oh, Imma give y’all my number, if y’all need it, just hit me up. I’m aunty Whitney.”

Praising the late diva for her comforting motherly attitude and referring to her as the ‘sweetest woman’ and a ‘woman of her word’, Kelly later stated how Whitney did actually call the girls after exchanging numbers and checked on them.

Apparently, not only Houston was a vocal prodigy and a musical icon, she was also there for the young budding artists who were trying to find their ground in this cold, cold biz out there.

That’s what made her a standout Diva and such an inspirational figure to so many.
