Days after the first look of Jennifer Hudson donning her best attire to resemble the late and great Aretha Franklin went viral on social media, the very first brief teaser of the upcoming biopic, ‘Respect’, on the queen of soul has been released.
Directed by famous theatre-director Liesl Tommy, the first major big-screen biopic on the Queen of Soul will focus on the early years of her life as well as her rise to prominence. This was the same project, that had Ms. Franklin’s personal involvement, prior to her death on August, 2018.
Interestingly, Jennifer Hudson was a personal favorite pick of Aretha Franklin, to play her on celluloid. And the way things have turned out, going by the first look of the film and the teaser, J Hud may just be looking forward to her next big-screen breakthrough role – after her Oscar-winning performance in 2006’s Dreamgirls.
Without giving away too much – the teaser literally does tease you with J Hud, in an Aretha Franklin-ish attire, belting out her classic signature track – ‘Respect.’

Can’t wait to see the first full-fledged trailer. The movie also stars the likes of Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, and Mary J. Blige in pivotal roles.
‘Respect’ is scheduled for a release on October 9, 2020 in the United States.
