Whitney Houston x Kygo’s 2019 Released ‘Higher Love’ Certified Platinum, Nominated at 2020 Billboard Music Awards

It has been over a year since Kygo brought to life Whitney Houston’s previously unreleased recording of Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’ and took it to international glory.

The ‘kind of unusual’ collaboration was not only critically acclaimed but also garnered the late diva her first dance hit in several years.

A year later, the estate of Ms. Houston confirms that the song has earned it’s Platinum certification, meaning – sales or sales equivalent of more than one million units in the United States, alone.

Not only that, the song earned another feat the same day – as the announcements for the 2020 Billboard Music Awards were made earlier on Tuesday, and the EDM collaboration earned a nod in the ‘Top Dance/Electronic Song’ category.

Here’s what the estate of Whitney Houston announced on social media:

“Higher Love” gets more LOVE today – first a RIAA platinum certification and now Kygo and Whitney have been nominated for a 2020 Billboard Music Award for Top Dance/Electronic Song!!! The 2020 Billboard Music Awards will air live on NBC on Wednesday, October 14 at 8:00 P.M. ET in the U.S.

The song, which used her vocals from 1990, has turned into her biggest posthumous international hit single.

In the UK, the song has already surpassed Steve Winwood’s original (comparing their respective chart performances), peaking at #2 on the UK Singles charts. This also marked her first Top 5 entry in the UK charts in eleven years, since her single ‘Million Dollar Bill’ peaked at #5 in the year 2009.

The song has already earned a Top 10 status in countries like – Czech Republic, Norway, Slovenia, Israel, Slovakia, Belgium, Ireland, Mexico, Hungary, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and Scotland (where it was placed at #1).

Talk about longevity!
