Angela Bassett Expresses Her Desire To Star in ‘Waiting To Exhale’ Sequel

1995-released female-empowering classic, ‘Waiting To Exhale’ was one of the most celebrated movies of the 90’s, particularly among women of color.

The comedy-drama, starring Loretta Devine, Lela Rochon, Angela Bassett and the late Whitney Houston explored the lives of 4 friends, searching for love and exploring their sexuality in a place called – “mid-life crisis.”

The movie was based on the best-selling novel by Terry McMillan, and ever since the writer released her sequel to the iconic novel in 2010, entitled – ‘Getting To Happy’ – buzz remained rife about the possibility of the same turning into a movie again.

Although the plans came to an abrupt stop, after the untimely passing of the original film’s leading star – Houston in 2012, it all might be coming to fruition after all – nearly 25 years since the movie’s release.

With the recently announced TV-show adaptation of the novel to be directed by Lee Daniels, Angela remains positive about getting to star in the project.

In her recent appearance on the CBS morning talk show, β€˜The Talk,’ Bassett was seen expressing her interest to once again step-into the shoes of her iconic ‘car-burning’ character – Bernadine Harris.

Since the cast of the TV-show-version of the novel is yet to be announced, we remain hopeful to see the legendary actress display the iconic sass of Bernadine, once again.

When quizzed about the project during the show, Angela stated:

“You know, that’s interesting because Terry McMillan, who penned the novel, she reached out to me a couple of months ago. And asking me – might I consider? And it was like – ‘Absolutely! Beyond the doubt. Give me something hard to answer.'”
