Mike Love had a mouthful to say when he visited the Oval Office to witness Donald Trump put the Music Modernization Act into law.
The Beach Boys singer commenced his speech by stating that Donald Trump was one of the few people who reached out to Whitney Houston during her time of need, and tried to save her from her prolonged battle with substance addiction.
The 77 year old thanked Trump for ‘his support in music’ and cited his friendship with Whitney Houston as an example for the same.
“Thank you so much for your support of music historically,” he said. “I remember you tried your best to help get Whitney Houston in some kind of shape. I remember being at Mar-a-Lago with this guy right here. He had [billionaire investor] Ron Pearlman come down. You tried your best to help Whitney and she’s not the only one you’ve benefited and tried. People can say what they want, but you’ve always been a big supporter of some of the best music that America has ever made.”
Trump had previously said in a number of occasions that he was a good friend of Houston and felt greatly about her musical and personal decline, as she slowly succumbed to drug-addictions. “She was a friend of mine,” he told Wendy Williams in 2012, while reflecting back on the diva’s downward spiral.
