Shawn Mendes – who’s gearing for yet another #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums charts, with the release of his latest studio effort – ‘Wonder’, recently spoke on the rumours pertaining to his sexuality.
Despite his infamous and very public relationship with singer Camila Cabello, Mendes has been in the centre of speculations, revolving around his sexuality – claiming he’s a closeted homosexual.
In a recent, very candid, interview with The Guardian, Shawn addressed all these speculations, calling out people for forcing him to be someone he’s not.
Here’s what he was quoted as telling the publication:
“There was a desperation for me to come out as being gay, which is such a ridiculous thing. I got upset because I know people who are gay who haven’t come out and I know the suffering they experience because of that. It’s just completely ignorant and insensitive of people to be on that sh*t.”
He further spoke on how he’s been working on loving himself, and has been under therapy for the past year and a half.
Here’s what he said:
“That’s the problem. That’s where you go into a complete meltdown, when you try to make something that’s impossible to make: something that the whole world likes. It is a psychological head-f*ck. It completely is, and that’s after three therapists and 55 self-help books plus meditation and exercise and life experience and all of the things I’ve been working through for the last year and a half.”

Even if there was any truth to the speculations, it is no one’s job to force anyone out of the closet.
