‘Genius’: Aretha Franklin TV Biopic Breaks Nat Geo Viewership Records, As Diva’s Social Media Also Endorses The Series

Ahead of the release of Aretha Franklin’s much-awaited official biopic, ‘Respect’ – which stars Jennifer Hudson stepping into the shoes of the late and great Queen of Soul, Nat Geo has presented another tell-all on the legendary singer.

Entitled, ‘Genius’ – the biopic, televised in the form of series, has garnered record-breaking ratings for the network.

Starring Oscar-nominee Cynthia Erivo in the role of Franklin, the 8-episode series has become the entire network’s most viewed Genius program to date.

Averaging at 1.10 million, the skyrocketing viewership has been witnessed in spite of the backlash that had come from members of Franklin’s family, who had called out the makers of the series for not taking their approval on the project.

The Genius franchise which has previously aired episodes on some other prominent figures of history, reached it’s pinnacle on average viewership, all thanks to the curiosity surrounding Ms. Franklin.

Interestingly, despite such opposition, Franklin’s official social media pages had promoted the series a few days back.

Nevertheless, the Queen Of Soul’s name can still invite such attention and this goes on to show, the kind of fate that awaits for her upcoming big-screen biopic.

Jennifer Hudson might just be in for a big treat.
