Jennifer Hudson – Spotlight [Music Video]

She did not win American Idol, but Jennifer Hudson was certainly destined for greater things after her exit from the show in 2004.

After her starring role in award-winning musical drama ‘Dreamgirls’ in the year 2006, that led her to win an Oscar in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category, Hudson released her self-titled debut studio album in 2008. And ‘Spotlight’ became her first single off the album, after all the Oscar and Golden Globe glory she received in the years before.

Helmed under the reputed Arista banner, the song was written by Mikkel S. Eriksen, Tor Erik Hermansen and Shaffer Smith, while the music for the same was produced by – Ne-Yo and Stargate.

The song talks about the insecurities and over-possessiveness of Hudson’s lovers, which drives her over the edge.

A stylish music video for the song was filmed by Chris Robinson and was premiered on BET’s 106 and Park in June, 2008.

The song peaked at #1 on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and remained there for 2 weeks.
