Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You [Music Video]

By 1992 Whitney Houston had already established herself as the best selling female artist of that time and the record was only to be furthered in the year to come with the release of The Bodyguard soundtrack.

The film that marked her debut as a motion picture actress, catapulted her to an unprecedented level of stardom – with the soundtrack of the film breaking records, and eventually becoming the best selling female album of all time.

The lead song from the OST – I Will Always Love You, originally written and sung by Country legend – Dolly Parton, became a trademark hit for Houston, who transformed it into a powerhouse vocal performance that became a benchmark for a legion of female singers who took inspiration from the diva.

The song broke every record in the book then, spending a whopping 14 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It went on to become the best selling female song of all time – a record that it still holds even today.

At the Grammys – the song won ‘Record Of The Year’ and ‘Pop Vocal Performance – Female’ awards, and over the years continually cemented it’s legacy as one of the Pop music’s greatest recordings, even further.

In the year 2020, the song was also inducted into the National Library of Congress for it’s cultural and historical impact and was also listed in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.

Yet again in 2020 – the song’s music video surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube, becoming the first song of the 20th century by a solo artist to reach the milestone. And it’s popularity continues to remain constant even as it enters it’s 3rd decade.
