Dolly Parton Says She Wants ‘Someone Like Beyonce’ To Cover ‘Jolene’

Dolly Parton’s catalogue has often been covered by hundreds of different artists worldover, but there are few specific names she still has her eyes on – when it comes to delivering new renditions of her old classics.

Case in point – Jolene.

The Grammy winning hitmaker, who released the hit country recording in 1973, recently spoke on how the song remains her most covered classic, yet none of those covers have been able to find any mainstream success.

Hoping for a rendition, that brings her the coins (as she’s the songwriter behind the classic), the legendary songstress stated that she would want someone like Beyonce to cover it now.

Here’s what she was quoted as telling The Big Issue, during a recent interview:

“‘Jolene’ has been recorded more than any other song that I have ever written,” Dolly reminisced.

She further stated:

“It has been recorded worldwide over 400 times in lots of different languages, by lots of different bands. The White Stripes did a wonderful job of it, and many other people. But nobody’s ever had a really big hit record on it. I’ve always hoped somebody might do someday, someone like Beyoncé.”

Would be interesting to hear what kind of spin Beyonce could bring to this old classic, with her showwomanship.
