‘Had To ‘Beg’ DJs To Play City Girls’ Songs When JT Went To Prison’, Says Yung Miami

Hip-Hop Duo City Girls had to go through some up’s and down’s in the middle of their booming recording career, when one of them was abruptly sent to prison.

The group, consisting of Yung Miami and JT, was held-back for an entire year when the former was sent to Tallahassee, Florida prison, serving out a sentence for credit-card fraud. It was immediately after the duo had gained worldwide popularity following their feature on Drake’s “In My Feelings” in 2018.

Reflecting back at the time, Yung Miami now says it became extremely difficult for her to get their songs played on the radio, back then.

During her latest spill for Interview Magazine, the duo spoke with fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion about it all –

“JT went to jail and I used to have to beg the DJs to play our song,” Yung Miami stated. “I used to be like, ‘JT, we got to rap for real.’ They were going up for our songs in the club and she’d be like, ‘B*tch, I’m in jail. I’m not thinking about no f*cking music.’ And I was like, ‘JT, this is our way out. I think we should take this seriously.’”

Interesting.
