Kevin Costner Remembers Whitney Houston At Pre-Grammy Party, “We could not protect our beloved”

Kevin Costner has co-starred opposite a long-list of Hollywood icons, but none of them had an impact on him the way the late Whitney Houston did.

The two starred opposite each other in the 1992 released romantic drama ‘The Bodyguard’, which became one of the biggest hits of the year and gave Houston her trademark hit single, ‘I Will Always Love You’ – that went #1 in nearly every country in the world.

The two became close friends eventually and formed a special connection, that often transcended into fan-theories about them being in an unrequited love.

Costner – who famously payed a heartbreaking eulogy to Whitney after her passing in 2012, that continues to go viral even years later, once again prepped a beautiful speech for the singer and actress, at the recently held pre-Grammy ball.

Hosted by Houston’s mentor Clive Davis – who also co-produced her recently released biopic ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’, this year’s celebration once again payed homage to the late diva – as her death anniversary also approaches come February 11, and on top of that – 2023 would also mark her 60th birth anniversary.

In an emotional remembrance to Whitney, Kevin spoke directly to Clive, as he said:

“Neither one of us, in the end, could protect your beloved Whitney.”

He added:

“But your fingerprints on her life are clean my friend. You were a miracle in her life. Thank you for being her bodyguard, Clive. Everyone in this business has a mom, but not everyone has a Clive.”
