Whitney Houston Makes History Again: Becomes First Black Artist With 3 Diamond Albums

Only days after earning herself the monumental feat of one billion views on the official video of ‘I Will Always Love You’, the late Whitney Houston’s legacy has added another feather to her coveted hat.

The diva has become the first black artist in history to have 3 diamond certified albums from RIAA to her name.

That means, 3 albums with sales of at least 10 million in the United States alone.

With the latest and long-overdue certification coming from the sales-update of her 1987-released sophomore album, ‘Whitney’, the songstress has earned herself another record, in the long list of achievements she’s already had.

Her previous two diamond certified albums included – her 1985 self-titled debut album, ‘Whitney Houston’ – and her notorious soundtrack album for The Bodyguard.

She’s only the second female overall to have achieved this feat, right behind Shania Twain – who also boasts of 3 diamond albums.

These are the only two ladies in the short list of artists who’ve had 3 or more diamond certified albums in music history, with Whitney being the only black artist to do so.

A marvellous feat by one of the greatest singers to have touched the microphone.
