New Trailer For Whitney Houston Biopic Shows Her Bond With Girlfriend, Money-Issues With Her Father

More than a month ahead of the release of Whitney Houston’s first-ever official big-screen biopic, the makers have unveiled the second dialogue trailer of the film.

‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, which sees the ‘fairly new’ Noami Ackie – take-on the role of the late and celebrated songstress, focuses on her brilliance as an artist and her assent to superstardom, while also not ignoring her personal struggles and trials.

Going by the second trailer unveiled by Sony Pictures, the Kasi Lemmons directorial delves into the subject of Houston’s money-related issues with her late father John Houston, which also resulted into his termination from her payroll back in the early 2000’s.

The intriguing teaser starts with Ackie as Houston confronting an interviewer about the perception of her music not being ‘black enough’ or simply daring to cater to a larger demographic than just African-Americans.

A powerful reply about not submitting to other people’s perception of her, delivered with a sense of emotional fierceness by Naomi, begins this intense trailer.

We also get to see her first meeting with her ex husband Bobby Brown at the Soul Train Awards, where he cheers her up and instils confidence in her before she gets on stage, with tears filled in her eyes.

In a couple of montages, the trailer also gives a glimpse into the closeness Houston shared with her rumored girlfriend – Robyn Crawford, who was said to be in an intimate relationship with her, during her early years in showbiz.

The scenes are depicted in the backdrop of a powerful a capella rendition of one of her most well-recognized songs – ‘I Will Always Love You’, which many people believe should have been the name of the film.
