With An Audience Score Of 92%, Whitney Houston Biopic Labelled ‘Instant Classic’ By Viewers

It has been a few weeks since Whitney Houston’s first official big-screen biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody hit the theatres a few days before Christmas.

Consistently running in it’s third week now, the film is maintaining a stable Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 92%.

Notwithstanding, how critics felt about the film – much like the recent biopics of Freddie Mercury or Elvis Presley, audiences have continually showered love on I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

The Kasi Lemmons directed venture, which received blessings from Houston’s estate and got access to her recorded music and live performances, showcases the story of one of the leading songbirds of America – from her early days singing at a night club along with her mother, to her global superstardom.

Naomi Ackie – who plays Whitney and did 8 months of research to get into the shoes of Houston, to reenact her Jersey accent and on-stage mannerisms, has received widespread acclaim for her act, with many lauding it as one of the best performances of the year.
