Issa Rae Exposes Music Industry: ‘Worst industry I’ve ever come across’, Says It Is Filled With ‘Criminals’

Issa Rae is making her advent into the world of music with her new label – Raedio, and she’s doing it with quite a blast.

The actress and now, freshly-turned record producer – who’s looking to take new and upcoming talent under her wings, has shared her own experience of what it is like working in the music industry, having experienced it from the front row, and the kind of interactions and experiences she’s had in it thus far. (Pssst… they’re not good!)

The star of HBO’s Insecure called the music industry – the “worst industry” she’s ever come across, among other things.

During her recent interaction with Variety, here’s what the 36 year old stated:

“It’s probably the worst industry I’ve ever come across. I thought Hollywood was crazy. The music industry, it has to start all over again. There are lots of conflicts of interest. Archaic mentalities. Villains and criminals! It’s an addiction industry, and I really feel for artists who need to get into it.”

She further added:

“I do not want to be too specific, but even with making our own appointments [for soundtracks] with labels or artists, it would be so intricate. And to find out how artists were treated on other labels … When I myself am a creator and know what I want in relation to a relationship with a production company or a producer, I would like to think that we are more artist-friendly than much of other brands and companies out there. I want to renew things.”

Wonder if she’d ever detail on those ‘specific’ encounters that made her feel this way…
