Luther Vandross Posthumously Earned His Career-First Platinum Selling Singles On His Birth Anniversary This Year

Luther Vandross – one of the most celebrated male vocalists of our lifetimes delivered some pretty unforgettable RnB tunes in his illustrious career.

From ‘Never Too Much’ to ‘Here & Now’, the powerhouse and soulful vocalist – despite all his mainstream success, was never awarded a platinum plaque for his many successful singles by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA), while still boasting of many platinum-selling albums.

That changed earlier this week, more than 15 years after his passing, when three of his past singles simultaneously earned a posthumous certification.

Vandross’ notable singles – ‘Here & Now’, ‘Endless Love’ (with Mariah Carey) and ‘Dance with My Father’ – have all been certified Platinum by the RIAA, for sales of over one-million units in the United States.

The announcement was made on the singer’s birth anniversary on 20th of April, making it all the more special.

Apart from that, Luther’s signature ballad, ‘A House is Not a Home’ – which is a cover of a Dionne Warwick classic, also earned a Gold certification by the association.

Happy 70th birthday in Heaven, Luther!
